"Chip Shearin is one of the most well rounded musicians in the world. He’s a top tier bassist who has worked with artists including Donald Byrd, Marion Meadows, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, and many more. He produces commercial music for advertisements, television shows, and even composes film music. Millions have heard his playing in one form or another, but many will instantly recognize his playing on the Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.” Shearin was just a teenager when he recorded the track, which he admits he has a love-hate relationship with. After helping so many stars develop their albums and live shows, Shearin has released his debut solo album, How I Live, on Innervision Records. The 12-song release collects several of the bassist’s original tunes with some memorable takes on his favorite classic songs like “Stretchin’ Out” by Bootsy Collins, “Who Is He” by Bill Withers, and the Meters tune “Cissy Strut.” Shearin has also been keeping busy on the bass with fellow 4-stringer Ethan Farmer. The duo created a band called The Avengers, which has played a string of shows last year with more tour dates in the works. Shearin splits his time between Los Angeles and North Carolina, where he grew up. We reached him at his home to get his take on the music industry, his band, his new album, and the story behind “Rapper’s Delight.”

"D-Way is an up and coming hip hop artist born in Raleigh, NC. He moved with his mother to Portsmouth, VA at age 7 where initially the move was supposed to be for better opportunities, where he ended up being introduced to a much more dangerous environment in the tough streets of downtown Portsmouth, VA where he witnessed a totally different lifestyle and a way faster life than he had known from NC. Throughout the years he always had a love for music but by being a little less confident in actually rapping he found interest in using keyboards and studying beats and producers. By the end of his first semester of high school as he’s now around the age of 14/15 his mother decides to move the family back to a much slower environment in the small town of Warsaw, NC. While back in Carolina, he eventually found out he had a great voice for actually rapping and ended up impressing a lot of his peers and people he never knew with his new found talent and actually started recording. In 2017 he released his first project titled “Only Way Is Up” which got great feedback and built a strong buzz throughout the Carolinas. In December 2018 he released his 2nd project titled “King Way” which streamed very good. His latest project which released in April 2020 titled “Blame My Mind, Not My Heart” is currently growing and he’s receiving great feedback from labels and great streaming. He has worked with Interscope recording artist “DaBaby” who is currently one of the top artist in the world.
