NC Film E/NEWS

With Film Production Resuming in North Carolina,  Grant recipients will spend $107 million amid COVID-19 interruptions.  Not sure if you heard, but the election is officially over, well sort of...so what doest that mean for NC Film? Who won,  that are NC film allies? What's the latest status on grants?

1. GOVERNOR ROY COOPER (D): “Our state’s film industry continues to welcome new projects from prominent production companies,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “The industry provides good jobs and opportunities for local businesses while showcasing on a big stage what North Carolina has to offer.” Read press release here.

2. NC SENATOR WILEY NICKEL (D): On February 2018, along with North Carolina senators, Harper Peterson (D-New Hanover), and Paul Lowe (D-Forsyth), co-sponsored the SB57 bill to bring back the film tax incentive.

“This act is effective for taxable years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2019 and applies to qualifying expenses occurring on or after that date,” the bill proposed. Read the latest about Wiley here.

3. NC SENATOR PAUL LOWE (D):  As mentioned above , Lowe was appointed to fill out the term of Senator Earline Parmon in 2015 and wasted no time to get to work. Within the first few days of his legislative career, Senator Lowe began to focus on the economic needs of his community in Forsyth County and the State of North Carolina. He introduced several bills to revive tax credits including historic preservation and film production as well as numerous pieces of legislation to show that North Carolina is open for business and job creation.

4. Film & Digital Council Chair:  Susan Hamilton: (12.09.2020)N.C. governor Roy Cooper, announced Wilmington’s Susan Hamilton, who has been Secretary of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources since 2017, will be stepping away.

Before her appointment, Hamilton was a state legislator representing Brunswick and New Hanover Counties since 2011. During her tenure with the department, Hamilton helped develop and launch Hometown Strong to address the needs of rural communities, oversaw distribution of internet hotspots for digital learning, and led the state’s Advisory Council on Film, Television and Digital Streaming. She will continue to chair that council. Current

WELcome Industry MOms and Dads

Little Kauer and I in an ad, Camille Kauer and daughter Vansco.

Parenting isn't easy and when you work in the industry there are some unique circumstances...

I grew up on set, my mom performed car, combat, and other typical action movie stunts (New Jack City, Jason's Lyric) and my father an award-winning producer (Hustle and Flow,  Girl's Trip) would have on set whenever I was out of school. I learned a lot from Watching them work, and my own experiences working all over America. I also helped my daughter with her own career in entertainment. She started modeling at 11 months old and worked regularly... until the pandemic. She loves filmmaking the most and her plans are to become a director full time when she's an adult. She loves making movies already.
